Are you Building Your House on the Circumstances of Life or Upon the Unfailing word of the Living God

By Walter Schwartz

Text Luke 6 Verse 48 and 49

What type of house are you building, and what type of material are you using? Each one of us is given a certain amount of time by our creator and none of us know when that time will come to an end.  Some of us are given many years and some just a few years.  The choice is ours to make what we will do with the gift of life, and that is to squander it, or use time wisely.  In the book of Eccl Chapter 3 Verse 15 we have these words by the wisest man that ever lived, King Soloman, “And God requireth that which is past.”  Or in our modern vernacular, we are going to be held accountable for our choices in life.  Look around you and see the choices that so many of us make and you will discover that most people are living for this life, and give no thought that they are eternal beings made in the image of their creator, and will live forever and ever in eternity.

The words of the scripture tell us to not love the world or the philosophy that the world lives by.  First John Chapter 2 and Verse 15, “If any man loves the world, the love of the father is not in him.”  The reason being that the thinking of the world is worshiping yourself, and leave God out of the equation.  Did you ever stop to think of what men think of as they are about to leave this life, and have enjoyed great wealth and success and cannot take it with them?  Thousands of years ago the words of Job are still as true as they were then, as they are in our age.  Job Verse 21, “And said naked came I out of my mother’s womb and naked shall I return thither.”

Every human being has a desire to make something out of his life and this is God given and is good, but how men or women go about it is a different matter.  There are two views of success in life. One is grab all you can and fill your life with things or material wealth, and gratify the flesh as you are here only once.  It can be summed up as the most important person in life is me or I.  The other view is that we are not here by accident and that we are given a time period to live for the one that has created us.  And will all stand before the sovereign of the universe and his name is Almighty God.  The great surprise that many will find is that his name is Jesus of Nazareth and all will bow before him.  In that day, the words of scripture are very clear, “As I live, saith the Lord, every knee will bow before me and all will confess Jesus as Lord.”  Phil Chapter 2 Verse 5 to 11.

In the book of Romans we have these words, “For none of us liveth to himself and no man dieth to himself.  For whether we live, we live unto the Lord and whether we die, we die unto the Lord.  Whether we live therefore or die we are the Lord’s.”  Here in scripture the fact of ownership is presented and we are not our own as some would like to believe.  In our terminology, God calls the shots and not puny man, the answer is to surrender ourselves to the one who made us and to repent of our sin and rebellion and to call upon the name of the Lord.  “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  Romans Chapter 10 Verse 13
