WHY DANCE?

         Yes! Why should anyone learn to dance? Read this true story of a boy who learned to dance!

Once upon a time there was a boy in school who was so shy and introverted that he had a difficult time talking to boys and especially girls! He went to occasional school dances and would try to dance. He had good rhythm and could feel the music but did not know how to dance. He only swayed to the music with the girl in his arms. He did the "Y-Dance" ... "Why Dance?"

Then he joined the Air Force at 17 and was stationed in Denver. He went to a dance at the YWCA and saw an Arthur Murray teacher there who danced everything! Being a math & scientific nut he did not understand how the teacher could do this. He kept this in the back of his mind when he was transferred to Tampa, Florida. He decided to take dance lessons and researched all studios. He felt Arthur Murray's was the best. So he got up the nerve and walked into the AM Studio in Tampa. They signed him up in a contract which was good for him. He learned a lot and practiced much.

The guys at the base made fun of him. "They're stealing your money! Hey, lets see your steps! Ha! Ha! Ha!"  But at the studio he met a lady student who was a little bit older and they went dancing together to practice. One night they were at a club dancing all the dances: Fox Trot, Waltz, Rumba, Swing, Cha-Cha, Tango, Mambo, and more! There was a couple sitting in front by the edge of the dance floor. The guy was leaning back in his chair and the girl was leaning forward watching them with joy! He still remembers this after all these years: As they danced by, she turned to her boyfriend and said: " Why can't you dance like that?" Then it was all worth while to this boy!

Dancing is wonderful! Sometimes depressed? Go dancing! It lifts the spirit! Besides the great exercise and many friends you make, you can be extremely popular with the opposite sex! Hey, if guys are smart they'll learn to dance! If he's a good dancer, he will be popular with ALL the ladies!

This young man went on to teach for Arthur Murray's and bring happiness to many people! He became a certified judge and a member of the National Dance Board for Arthur Murray's! He has won top prizes in many competitions! Besides ballroom, he also dances in The Nutcracker! Did you guess who this is?
