John was raised in Phoenix, Arizona and he attended Phoenix College with his major in education. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1969. In 1967 he served one tour of duty in Viet Nam.

 

He began teaching ballroom dance in 1972 at Town & Country Dance Clubs, where Ron Montez as well as Chris & Denise Morris were trained. He worked his way up to Front Department Supervisor and then Dance Director.

In 1977 he moved to Las Vegas where he assumed the position of Dance Director at Dance City U.S.A. He then became co-owner of Vegas Dance Center up until 1988. While he was in Las Vegas, he majored in Dance at U.N.L.V.. He served as protégé to Peggy Ryan, who co-starred to Donald O’Connor in 17 movies as well as many other roles on her own such as Grapes of Wrath”, just to name one.

 

In 1990, John relocated to San Luis Obispo, where he took position as Dance Director at Ballroom Expressions and then later taught independently until 2003.

 

He was the guest lecturer at Cal Poly every new quarter for the past 11 years. John has participated in well over 70 Professional/Amateur competitions.

 

He has won “Top Teacher” at several events as well as “Top Choreographer”.

 

For more than 31 years John has made teaching dance his full time career.
